Chicago, IL — Boardrooms set company policy. Lawmakers set the rules of work.
What you’re paid, what happens when you get sick, and whether your job is still there next year—none of that is settled at your desk. It’s decided by people who need your vote to keep their jobs.
Yet across corporate America and professional networks, civic participation is often treated as something to leave at the door. And on the rare occasions it does appear, it arrives in the form of an “I Voted” sticker that peels off before lunch.
Enter Open to Vote (OpenToVote.org), a lightweight civic tool created by Chicago creative studio HoneyWired® in collaboration with Vote.org. Borrowing the familiar visual language of LinkedIn’s #OpenToWork frame, the project turns profile photos into a standing, professional-grade signal for democracy.
A Standing Civic Signal
An #OpenToVote badge operates like #OpenToWork: keeping participation visible across your network long before Election Day arrives.
- Built for the network: Voters wear stickers for a few hours after leaving the booth. Open to Vote keeps civic presence alive across colleagues, recruiters, and clients during the critical weeks when voter registration deadlines actually close.
- Zero friction: No account required, no passwords to set, and no software to install. Upload a photo, generate the badged profile picture, and save the file.
- Universal format: Generates a standard square PNG formatted to drop cleanly into LinkedIn, Bluesky, X, Slack, or any professional forum.
Strictly Nonpartisan
Open to Vote doesn’t tell you who to vote for. Who you vote for is your business. Showing up is everyone’s business.
The project names no political party, no candidate, and endorses nobody. It simply asserts that the decisions shaping working lives are made by elected officials who answer to voters—and that you intend to be one of them.
The Privacy Is in the Architecture, Not the Settings
True to HoneyWired’s creative technology focus, OpenToVote.org runs with a zero-data footprint:
- Nothing leaves your device: The badge is applied inside your browser’s canvas element. Your photo is never transmitted to an external server, saved in a database, or shared with third parties.
- Offline by design: You can load the site, turn off your Wi-Fi or disconnect your phone, and the photo generator still works flawlessly.
- Zero trackers: No cookies are stored, no analytics profile you, and no personal data is collected.
Back Up the Badge
“If you’re going to wear the badge, you have to back it up,” says Kevin McGlone, Creative Director at HoneyWired. “Deadlines in many states close weeks before November. We wanted to build something that bridges the gap between our working lives and our civic responsibilities—a sharp, unmistakable signal that respects user privacy entirely while making voter participation impossible to ignore.”
Through its direct integration with Vote.org, the platform provides one-click access for professionals to check their registration status, review state-by-state registration deadlines, and locate their polling places.
